Continental Drift (2025) consists of an AC motor continuously turning various disk-shaped objects configured like a train of gears, so that their rotations become slower and less perceivable to the eye at each step, until the invisible movement finally reaches the scale of geological movements which is approximately 2 cm/year for Istanbul where the piece was shown. At the end of the mechanism is a rubber duck attached to a linear motion rail in the direction opposite of the tectonic plate movements in the exhibition location (based on geological measurements with respect to the IGS14 reference frame), as if it is trying to resist the movement of the Earth’s crust. A compass rose is printed on the floor as a reference.
